Newcastle City Council has been shortlisted for the Health & Safety Initiative of the Year at this year’s LARAC (Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee) Awards for their implementation of SiteZone’s RCV Smart Loader.
This category recognises initiatives that tackle health and safety concerns within waste management and recycling — from managing risks when handling materials, to ensuring machinery is operated safely, preventing workplace accidents, and safeguarding the health of workers and the public.
The nomination highlights the Council’s proactive approach to improving safety for waste collection crews through the introduction of our RCV Smart Loader system. By combining technology, data insights, and a carefully planned rollout, the project has delivered measurable safety improvements and behavioural change while maintaining operations and service standards. We’ll soon be sharing a detailed case study on the initiative and its results.
The 2025 awards will mark the 40-year anniversary of LARAC, who are the voice for Collection, Disposal and Unitary Local Authority Recycling and Waste Professionals. Fingers crossed for our customer Newcastle City Council, who will find out if they’ve won at the ceremony on 8th October at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham.
