SiteZone on track to meet emissions target early

Written by Sam Boshier | Jun 15, 2026 3:16:26 PM

SiteZone Safety has reduced its carbon emissions for the second consecutive year, cutting emissions by 11% compared with 2024 and 35% since its 2023 baseline. The reduction equates to 36 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) removed from the company's footprint since 2023.

As a responsible supplier to the waste and recycling sector, we began reporting our carbon emissions in 2023. Now in our third year of reporting using the most widely adopted standard -The Greenhouse Gas Protocol – we’re on track to reach our target to reduce these by 50% by 2028.

How did we do this?

Travel and leased assets remain the company's largest sources of emissions, making them a key focus for reduction efforts. In 2025 we had a full year of our engineers using plug-in hybrid vehicles. Engineers were supported with electric vehicle charging cards and reimbursement for home charging costs, helping increase electric-only mileage.

SiteZone also refined elements of its reporting methodology. Electricity consumption is now confirmed as being supplied from renewable sources through Arena Business Centre, while product-use emissions are calculated using actual runtime data rather than estimated assumptions.

What’s next?

After our 2024 report we committed to reduce carbon emissions by 50% within the first five years. This means we need to further reduce emissions by 15 tCO2e. We’re well on track and our projections are to achieve this early, by 2027.

To reach this, in 2027 we plan to switch at least part of the engineer’s fleet to fully electric and continue to focus on efficient job planning.

Gary Escott, Managing Director of SiteZone Safety, said

"Reducing emissions year after year requires consistent effort and investment across the business. We're proud of the progress we've made but we know the improvements get harder. As we’re an SME, there are no obligations for us to do this, but we remain focused on reaching our 50% reduction target ahead of schedule. Sustainability is an important part of how we support the waste and recycling sector and contribute to the ambitions set out in ESA Vision 2040 which aims to eliminate all avoidable waste by 2040 – a decade ahead of Government targets."

SiteZone's carbon footprint calculations cover Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and are prepared in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. The figures have been independently reviewed by non-executive director Gareth Jones, an experienced sustainability and strategy consultant.
