After just completing our second year of voluntary carbon emission reporting, we’re pleased to share that our carbon footprint has dropped by 27% saving 30 tonnes of CO2e.
This significant achievement is a result of switching our fleet of engineer’s vehicles from pickup trucks to plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
After our first successful review in 2023 – using the most widely adopted standard the Greenhouse Gas Protocol – we realised that the largest portion of our carbon footprint [85%] was travel. So, we decided to focus our efforts in this area first and have seen a great result.
Gary Escott, Managing Director of SiteZone Safety, commented,
“As an SME there’s no obligation on us to report on our carbon emissions, but we want to be a responsible business and take our partnership with the waste and recycling industry seriously.
It’s a fantastic result to make such a large reduction in just one year. But as we know the first reductions are always the easiest, so we’re not stopping there. We’re committing to reduce emissions by a further 20 tonnes, meaning a 50% reduction in 5 years.”
With a safety-first design principal, we’ll be looking at ways to reduce our emissions including potential fleet upgrades to full electric and continuing our ‘right first-time’ philosophy to avoid unnecessary travel.
