Half of waste sector deaths still caused by moving vehicles

We’re recycling this headline from last year.

Why? Because it hasn’t changed.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) just released its latest annual figures for work-related fatalities. 126 people lost their lives due to workplace accidents in 2025/26.

26 of those were from being struck by a moving vehicle.

After a big drop last year, fatalities involving moving vehicles has massively increased by 85% year on year.

It’s the second highest cause of fatalities at work.

And the picture in the waste sector is even scarier. Half of fatalities in the waste sector are from being struck by a moving vehicle – that’s been the case for a few years now.

It’s why we continue to work closely with our partners in waste and recycling to drive change. Today, nearly 200 waste and recycling sites are being made safer with our proven proximity warning systems.

So, despite Britain being one of the safest places in the world to work, we still have a job to do in stopping complacency and keeping people safe from the vehicles operating on site.
